GradRoots provides multiple ways to be involved within the School of Environment & Natural Resources. In addition to our GradRoots officer positions, members can also participate on a variety of committees and positions within the school. Committee elections will be held this Spring for service through December 2012. After December 2012, all delegates will hold calendar year appointments. The Graduate Studies Committee (GSC) is responsible for the conduct and administration of the ENR graduate programs. Its voting members are comprised of six faculty members and two graduate students (one PhD and one Masters student). Responsibilities of the committee include: · Establishing grad admission and program policies, standards, and procedures · Screening and deciding on applications for admission to grad programs · Nominating candidates for fellowships, and ranking students for appointments to GTA, GRA, and administrative associateships · Reviewing and approving grad students’ Advisory/Examination Committee members, theses, and dissertation proposals · Hearing and responding to graduate student grievances · Reviewing, commenting on, and approving/disapproving all SENR courses that would carry graduate credit |

The Academic Affairs Committee is responsible for the content of the ENR undergraduate curriculum. Its voting members are comprised of faculty members, and undergraduate representative, and a graduate representative. Responsibilities of the committee include: · Development of new undergraduate courses · Undergraduate program changes · Undergraduate course changes |

The main purpose of the Council of Graduate Students (CGS) is to work towards continual improvement of graduate student experiences at The Ohio State University. Delegates are elected from every graduate program and are responsible for communicating concerns and representing the opinions and interests of their constituents at monthly meetings. They also serve as key contacts and sources of information for the students within their departments. There are also a variety of subcommittees on which delegates are able to serve. Marci is not only our SENR representative to the CGS, but she also is the primary contact for the Council on the Physical Environment (COPE). Responsibilities of delegates include: · Attend monthly meetings · Represent SENR interests and concerns · Provide feedback and CGS information to SENR grad students |

The Seminar Committee facilitates the invitation of speakers for the SENR Seminar Series (ENR 880) on behalf of GradRoots. The committee solicits names for potential speakers from ENR grad students and identifies top speaker nominees. The committee members then work with the current faculty coordinator to schedule the GradRoots speakers and organize the guest speaker’s travel arrangements, reimbursements, and honoraria.

The T.A. Development & Enhancement Committee (TADEC) is responsible for working with TAs and Instructors/Faculty Supervisors to ensure that TAs have high quality teaching and course support experiences, and that TAs make sound contributions to the School’s teaching mission. The committee discusses TA issues, development possibilities, and helps put together funding proposals. Committee members also help develop and coordinate start– and end-of-quarter TA meetings for SENR. Responsibilities of the committee include: · Scheduling, developing, and planning regular orientation and enhancement seminars for all SENR TAs · Develop and implement a Doctoral Teaching Associate Program within SENR · Developing and implementing a TA mentoring program · Developing and implementing a TA assessment program with TA self-assessments and faculty supervisor assessments · Promote and support participation in University Center for the Advancement of Teaching (UCAT) programs |
